Leavers and Deaths

Employers must notify the Fund when a member ceases membership of the scheme either as a result of leaving their employment or Opting out of the scheme.

The Fund will determine the member's options and notify them of these (which may include deferred benefits, a refund or to transfer out). The Fund needs to receive leaver information to comply with the relevant legal timeframe. The current timeframes are outlined with the Fund's Administration Strategy

Different Types of Leavers

  • Voluntary Resignation (including over 55s who do not wish to draw their benefits yet) - if your employer users i-Connect, we will be notified as part of your return;
  • Redundancies for members aged under 55 at the date of leaving;
  • Dismissal
  • Opting In And Opting Out of the scheme
  • Death in Service - any age; and
  • TUPE Transfer

If the scheme member is leaving due to TUPE please contact Employer.Relations@wiltshire.gov.uk as this would often mean that other actions need to take place, such as setting up a new admitted body arrangement.

What do I need to do?

Most large employers are required to submit leaver information using monthly administration return. However, small employers usually notify is by completion of an individual leaver form.

For i-Connect users, the Fund will receive most of the leaver information it requires through the i-Connect portal and will only contact the employer if further information is required. The main exception is for retirements, which we still need to receive separately.

Upon receiving the required leaver information, the Fund will then carry out the relevant checks and inform the member of their options.

For any deaths in service please complete the ER4 Death in Service form as soon as possible completing all sections highlighted as mandatory and email the completed form to pensionforms@wiltshire.gov.uk.

Giving other additional benefits

Depending on what has been agreed under your Discretions Policies you can also increase a member's pension by a certain amount per year. If you wish to do this, you will need to enter the appropriate details on the Employer forms as appropriate.

Exercising a discretion will normally result in paying additional costs which can be significant. To obtain an estimate of any costs, please contact us
